Did you know you can have a collection debt cleared if the collector refuses to accept a reasonable payment offer? That’s right! Collection companies or agents cannot force you to as they call it in the industry: P.I.F. (Pay In Full) even though your manager or the owner of the company they work for wants you to make agents believe. I worked in Collections in Canada for 3 years with that piece of knowledge and because I accepted P.T.P (Promise To pay) that was based on what my debtors (yes we call them that) could reasonably pay ( we have skip tracers at our disposal that research where you work, how much you make and we have access to your credit report so we know what you owe others too, so if you lie we know and I will let you know you can afford more than the $20 you claim and tell you how much you can realistically pay without breaking the bank. But some people can only afford $20, therefore I took 100 payments of 20$ a month. It froze the interest and once they showed good Faith and made a fair amount of payments I would call them back and using a good sales and scare balance I would congratulate them in being one of x amount of people to have been rewarded with the good debtor award and due to that their debt was now cleared, would be removed off their credit report and replaced with a favourable credit note from us. Bingo they just got good credit by paying the amount they could afford and not feeling scared I’d come repossess their kids next week. I consistently was #1 in reclaimed $ figured without ever coming even top #5 in PIF… use to upset my boss and my coworkers who would brag about having PIF a 10,000$ account. I’m like yeah good for you and now you just made a uni student starve… my people get to eat another day and who’s 1st in cash in fellas? Oh yeah me! Great going boys… you still suck!
So next time you get a collection call refuse to pay in full and when they refuse your reasonable payment offer ask them to send you a letter saying they are refusing to take your payment. Later today I’ll tell you how that works in your advantage in both Camda and US. Stay tuned!
